First Alert Forecast: Breezy trades and increased rainfall over the next several days

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – It might be a good idea to keep an eye on the radar this Halloween. We are still tracking an elevated chance for rain and showers over the windward parts of each island on Thursday and Friday.
Moisture from the remnants of major hurricane Kristy has been caught up in the trade wind flow and will make for a wet weather pattern on Thursday and Friday.
The rainfall will focus on the windward and mauka regions, but a few sprinkles could move leeward at times. There is also enough instability in the atmosphere for the chance of thunder over the windward parts of the Big Island.
In the long term, we are tracking an approaching cold front sometime next week. The combination of the front moving close to the state and a low pressure approaching from our southeast could lead to some heavy rainfall. The models may evolve over the next few days, but we are closely monitoring this weather pattern.
A large northwest swell is also expected this weekend. The swell could trigger high surf advisories on north and west-facing shores. The energy will filter in throughout Friday evening and Saturday.
